| A new operatic performance
developed from ideas created in the 2003 performances of 'DUELLING
DIVAS' by Susan Stacey and Liane Keegan.
Starring Susan Stacey and friends.
The story of Phenomenal Women came through a writing and performance
journey in 2003 with Australian contralto Liane Keegan. Searching
for a showcase filled with the intensity of characterisation and
vocal bravura that we were both searching for, we devised an hour
long performance about the journey of two women, illustrated through
music poetry and drama. The 2003 show included music by Puccini,
Ponchielli, Handel, Offenbach and Bernstein and was superbly received
at its premiere at Australia House, in London's West End to aid
the Tait Trust Fund for Singers.
The new production of Phenomenal Women is a performance for three
singers and an actress and will receive its first performance in
the summer of 2006. The story of this full length performance looks
at aspects of female life, from birth to death, love and loss -
told in opera arias, duets and trios and in words and theatre. The
production concept and script has already received critical support
from major names in theatre direction and design, and will feature
an element of video film to overlay and counterpoint the staged
action by an exciting female film maker.
