Susan Stacey as 'The woman'
Preliminary filming summer and autumn London 2005, and used as an
inspiration point for other collaboration film projects with UK
College film units and student director and film makers during the
academic year 2006.
'Erwartung' is the uncompromising
one woman opera written by Arnold Schonberg. A physiological examination
of one woman's frantic midnight journey - the story concerns the
flight of a woman who is pursuing or being pursued. Is she the murderer
of the body she encounters, is the body of the lover that she has
spurned, or is he unknown to her, is she guilty or an innocent caught
in a murderous trap?
'Erwartung' is an enigma, the vocal
and theatrical equivalent of seeing two middle chapters of a long
thriller - the viewer neither knows the beginning or the end of
the plot, but is invited to make their own conclusions about the
images they witness in performance. It is an abstract, inconclusive
work of one of the 20th Century most influential music forces -
challenging, uncompromising and hugely theatrical. Erwartung is
an ideal project to combine film - the 20th Century's most significant
art form.
Susan Stacey has worked with an eminent film maker on the concept
for the performance/film installation to create a piece of work
that can be viewed either as a film version of the work or, more
excitingly, as an interactive live performance/film installation.
